The Cure
The cure. I thought it was the cure. Her heart whispered as she walked past the road. The wind touched her cheeks gently as it made some of the leaves fall from their trees; the condition should have made any life, any soul, be peaceful. But she was not. At all.
Why? She asked. I ignored all the rules for the cure, but this is what I get?
She really would like to go into tears, but she didn't have them anymore.
Her heart was all afraid. Afraid of what? She didn't know. What she knew was she hoped that the cure wouldn't make her heart afraid again but it didn't happen.
It started to rain, but she didn't run. She loved the rain, and that time, she needed it. She walked and walked; and she saw some children dancing in the rain. They were so happy that it made her envious.
But as soon as she started being envious, she realized something. They were dancing yet still selling things to keep alive. Her heart was probably struggling to live at the moment, but at least her body had enough needs to stay ready for life. It's not that what I am facing is nothing compared to them; it is, probably, but mine also consumes life.
But look at them, she told herself. Aren't they facing the very same thing every day? Just like you face yours. Just like her.
But they survived. Happily.
"Hello?" a little girl hugged her. She was still so little that what she hugged was her legs.
The other children started to shout, "What are you doing? Come here! Come here!"
The girl giggled. The way her little, sparkling eyes saw was as if the girl asked to be carried. And she did.
"What's your name?"
"Anne! Get down!" The other children started to freak out.
"Hello, Anne." She said to the girl as she put her back in the ground.
"We are terribly sorry, Miss."
"It is okay. Where do you live? You can be sick if you stay in the rain like this."
The children giggled. "What's so important about it? This is where we live most happily, Miss. In the rain!"
Where we live most happily.
"Is it okay to excuse us, then? Once again, sorry." They then started dancing again.
They are so small yet they know where to seek happiness.
Isn't it the first step to find the cure? To know where to find?
Where is mine, then?
Anne pulled her. "Rain! Rain!" The girl asked her to join them.
The most important step right now is probably to stop thinking. Just like what the children did when they insisted to stay in the rain.
She carried the girl before she joined them.
